More than two dozen Olympic medallists, coaches and other world-class competitors have signed a letter demanding a halt to the death penalty of a champion boxer and coach, who is on death row in the country.

Growing Global Anger

Amid growing international outrage over Iran’s expanding employment of executions as a instrument of suppression, the powerfully expressed statement denounces the government's ruling to uphold the capital punishment of the athlete.

Vafaei Sani, thirty, from the city in the northern province, was arrested for taking part in countrywide demonstrations in two thousand nineteen and charged of aiding an opposition group. He has passed half a decade in detention, where he has been abused and kept in isolation.
